Requirements December 1943 until January 1965

1. Make a sketch of (a) some Scout equipment grouped together; (b) a camp scene from nature; (c) an event from memory or imagination.  Draw one in pen and ink, one in pencil or charcoal, and paint one in color.

2. Design a decoration for some article of his own.

3. Tell how his art work would be reproduced-- (a) by line cut; (b) by half-tone process; (c) by lithography.

 

Requirements January 1965 until June 1972

1. Tell a story with a picture or pictures. This story may be told in the form of a cartoon, cartoon strip, mural, or tapestry design rendered in any medium.

2. Promote a product or an idea with a picture or pictures. This may take the form of an advertisement layout for a magazine, a display card, a package, a poster, an industrial design, an architectural structure, or an interior decoration.

3. Record an experience or something that you have seen. This may be an illustration of a camp scene, a cartoon of a humorous experience in Scouting, a landscape painting, a picture of animals or birds, or a rendering of something that you have seen in a microscope or telescope; or copy a historic painting or decoration.

4. Decorate something with an original design. The design may be an applied design from nature or a geometric or impressionistic pattern. Apply the design to Scout equipment, knickknacks, furniture, ceramics, or fabric.

5. Design something useful---a book, furniture, house, rooms, car, instrument, clothing, costume, flower bed, ceramic object, etc.

6. Render a subject of your choice in four of these six methods:

(a) Pen and ink
(b) Watercolor
(c) Pencil
(d) Pastel
(e) Oil
(f) Tempera

7. Discuss vocational opportunities in art.

8. Explain the methods of reproducing art. Include photoengraving, lithography, silk screen, etching, drypoint, block printing, and woodcut.
