Pamphlets Used to Earn this Badge

Requirements March 1931 until December 1943

To obtain this Merit Badge, a Scout must:

1. Tell where in his locality the two general plans of Landscape Gardening may be found. Describe each and tell how he would improve the landscaping on the properties names.

2. Name and give the advantages and disadvantages of at least five trees frequently used in Landscape Gardening in his community, telling their characteristics. Explain from observation in his community how they have been used effectively.

3. Name and give the main characteristics of at least fifteen shrubs, evergreen or deciduous, which he has observed in his locality for landscape work (height, flowering or non-flowering, space required, propagation.)

4. Make a working drawing of a landscape project, using appropriate plants of his selection. This may be foundation planting, boundary planting, or screen planting of some building or grounds, preferably his own home.

5. Make a drawing of a flower garden or border, and arrange the planting so that once they start to bloom, there will be as nearly as possible a continuous showing of flowers at some point in the garden during the season.

6. Plant the above and take care of it, and if flowers are sold or given away, make a report.

7. Keep a time sheet of all work put in, and its cost, including shrubs, seeds, plants, etc.
