Do ONE of the following groups:

Raising Pullets

1. Raise 20 or more chicks (straight run or pullet) for 5 months.

2. Keep records on all management practices. Include amount of feed, deaths, medicine, and vaccinations.

3. Tell how to spot three common poultry diseases. Tell how you keep your pullets from getting these.

4. Make one piece of poultry keeping equipment. Use it.

5. Describe the brooding house in which you raised your chicks. Explain how you gave them proper sanitation and ventilation.

Flock Management

1. Take care of a flock (your own or a neighbor's) of 10 or more birds for 6 months. They should be at least 5 months old at the start.

2. Keep daily egg production records. Keep records on amount of feed and deaths.

3. Tell how to spot three common poultry diseases. Tell how you keep your birds from getting these. Explain culling.

4. Make one piece of poultry keeping equipment. Use it.

5. Candle, grade, and pack 2 dozen eggs for market.

Poultry Meat Production

1. Raise 20 or more birds to market age.

2. Keep records of amount of feed, deaths, and weight gains.

3. Write a report on the management of your birds.

4. Make one piece of poultry keeping equipment. Use it.

5. Kill and dress two birds for market.

This merit badge may be earned as a 4-H'er by completing a club project in that subject or as an FFA member by meeting these requirements through the FFA-supervised farming program.
